West Virginia Man Dies When Struck By CSX Train

(Martinsburg, West Virginia – July 1, 2011)

A local Martinsburg, WV pedestrian, Mark Gagnon, 58, was struck and killed by a CSX freight train as he tried to avoid the train at the East Burk Street railroad overpass. The victim had been walking upon the tracks with his back to the train, but then moved to the left and off the tracks when the train’s horn was sounded.

The CSX train, which was travelling from Philadelphia, PA to Connellsville, PA, had two locomotives and 61 cars. The Martinsville Police and Frederick County Sheriff’s Departments are both involved in the investigation, but medical examiners, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene, said he died of multiple blunt force trauma.
