(West Valley City, Utah – November 7, 2011)
A bicycle rider, who had boarded the wrong UTA TRAX light rail train and was attempting to switch to another, was struck and killed by a Utah Transit Authority “TRAX” light rail commuter train about 6:45 A.M. Monday morning at the Redwood Junction Station in West Valley City, UT.
The unidentified victim, who appeared to be in his 60’s, fell from the station platform and onto the rails as a TRAX train coming from Salt Lake City, UT approached. Passenger and witness Ryan Cameron said he saw the man had fallen between the train and the platform, and shouted for the operator to stop the train.
Running to the scene, Cameron learned, sadly, that his efforts had been in vain. The fatality marked the fifth involving TRAX trains this year, and the 11th TRAX accident.
