(Braceville, Illinois – November 7, 2011)
A supposedly-closed crossing just inside Grundy County, IL, near Braceville, IL, was the site of a car/train accident a little after 11:00 P.M. Monday night.
A vehicle driven by an as-yet unidentified female driver from Morris, IL was northbound on Kankakee Street when she failed to realize that the crossing of Union Pacific Railroad tracks on Kankakee has been closed for several years. Her car became stuck on the non-crossing and the driver exit her vehicle before a 22-car UPRR train arrived on the scene.
The train dragged the disabled car 230 feet east of the intersection, damaging it severely. Grundy County Sheriff’s officers did not issue any citations, and there were no injuries reported.
