Union Pacific Train Destroys 18-Wheeler Hung Up on Elevated Crossing
(Wellborn, Texas – September 9, 2011)
Although there were no signs of the danger of a high-profile grade crossing at Straub Road and Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Brazos County, just south of Wellborn, TX, an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer carrying a backhoe became stuck on the crossing and was destroyed by a Union Pacific freight train late Friday morning.
Although the Straub Road crossing has gates, the train came along several minutes after the high-dollar load became impaled on the crossing’s hump. The driver of the truck, owned by Boyd Ready Mix, had exited the cab prior to the train’s arrival, but one UPRR employee on the train was injured and was taken to College Station Medical Center for treatment.
