Union Pacific Train Derails 56 Carloads of Coal

(Emmett, Kansas – September 5, 2011)

A Union Pacific train hauling 130 cars loaded with coal derailed 56 of the 100-ton capacity cars early Monday morning about 3:50 A.M. in the community of Emmett, KS, northwest of Topeka, KS. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis could offer neither an explanation of cause nor a prognosis on how soon the derailment might be cleaned up and the tracks reopened.
