Union Pacific Suffers Second Derailment at Texas Main Line Location

(Hoard, Texas – August 4, 2011)

A Union Pacific freight train derailment in Wood County, Texas Thursday afternoon around 3:00 P.M. spilled 18 railroad hopper cars loaded with grain, and may tie UPRR main line tracks up through Saturday.

The mishap was at the same location, near Mineola and Hoard, TX, where another UP freight train derailed 23 cars of various freight commodities July 6. Although that derailment was blamed on a broken rail, the August incident found UP officials pointing at heat-related causes. The most recent wreck occurred to a train travelling from Kingfisher, OK to Westwego, LA.
