Two Dead, One Injured In Collision with Stationary Rail Car
(Fort Morgan, Colorado – October 28, 2011)
Two men died and a third was seriously injured when the pickup truck they were in collided with a standing freight car loaded with 100 tons of fertilizer at the end of a street that dead-ends into Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks in Fort Morgan, CO sometime prior to 6:44 A.M. Friday.
Driver, Justin Moss, 16, of Wiggins, CO, and one passenger, Michael Aguirre, 22, of Fort Morgan, were both killed while the injured passenger, William Mull, 18, also of Fort Morgan, was first taken to Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan, but then airlifted to the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO.
The collision, which obviously occurred at a high rate of speed, partially derailed the rail car. Responding to the tragedy were the Fort Morgan Police, the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Dept., the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol and the Morgan County Coroner.
