(Dayton, Tennessee – November 3, 2011)

An 18-wheeler semi-trailer truck, stuck on the high-profile railroad crossing of Delaware Avenue and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks in Dayton, TN about 7:30 P.M. Thursday evening, was completely destroyed by an NS freight train.

Dayton City Police Dept. Patrolman Dean Smith said the driver was able to escape the trapped vehicle before the train hit it. The crossing is equipped with lights and gates, but has no required “high-profile” warning sign to warn trucks of the possibility of scenarios such as occurred Thursday night.
