Truck Hit by Train After Stalling On Crossing With Dangerous History
(Marshfield, Wisconsin – December 3, 2011)
A pickup truck hauling a trailer hit an icy patch on Mann Road in Marshfield, WI Saturday morning about 9:00 A.M., slid into a railroad signal mast, and stalled on the crossing, only to be struck minutes later by a train traveling on Canadian National railroad tracks.
The driver, Leonard Zawisian, 66, of Spencer, WI, unable to extricate his vehicle from the tracks before the train arrived, was able to exit the truck before the train hit it, heavily damaging both the truck and the trailer.
The Mann Road crossing is fairly notorious, having been the site of 10 previous accidents resulting in one death and six injuries. Both CN and Union Pacific trains use the CN tracks through Marshfield.
