Truck Driver Disputes Accusations That He Stopped Too Close To Tracks
(Catlettsburg, Kentucky – May 4, 2012)
Truck driver Billy Robinson, who was injured Wednesday about 11:20 A.M. when the truck he was driving for Allied Transportation Services of Huntington, WV was struck by a CSX freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of the Calgon Carbon Corporation plant’s entry road and CSX railroad tracks is disputing reports that he either stopped too close to the tracks or drove his truck into the train.
Robinson told WOWK-TV reporter John Griffith that he checked in with the plant’s receiving office, pulled up toward the crossing, looked out his passenger side cab window and saw a train bearing down on him. He said he has been making safe and successful deliveries to the plant for the past five years, and his employer confirmed that he has an excellent safety record.
The trucker further charged that there are no warning signals or gates at the crossing, and feels that the existence of those would have prevented the accident.
