Train Hits Truck On Tracks From Earlier Accident

(Mansfield, Louisiana – August 12, 2011)

A tragedy was narrowly avoided early Friday afternoon about 2:00 P.M. when a Kansas City Southern freight train barreled through the scene of an earlier accident just as the injured driver was being removed.

An 18-wheeler hauling heavy construction equipment ran off Louisiana Highway 175 in Mansfield, LA as the driver attempted to avoid another vehicle, lost control and went through some woods before coming to rest on KCS Railroad tracks. Fortunately, the accident occurred directly in front of a fire station, and rescue crews were at the scene instantaneously.

Just as the injured driver was removed from the cab and before he could be placed in a waiting ambulance, the train, which had not been notified of the situation, came rumbling through the crash scene. Once it had stopped, it tied up two of Mansfield’s main crossings for hours due to track damage making the train immoveable.
