(Huron County, Michigan – May 7, 2012)
The 16-year-old driver of a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck, as well as his two teenage passengers, were all transported to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe, MI just prior to 8:00 P.M. Monday evening after their vehicle was struck by a westbound Huron & Eastern Railway freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of McMillan Road and H&E railroad tracks in Huron County, MI.
Bradley Lautenschlager and two unidentified passengers were headed north on McMillan Road when they were hit by the train at the crossing, which has no automatic protective devices such as flashing lights, bells or gates, and relies simply upon passive signage such as railroad crossbucks and highway stop signs to “warn” motorists that trains may cross at that point.
The conditions of the injured trio were undisclosed by the hospital. Responding to the accident were the Michigan State Police, Bad Axe Fire Dept., Central Huron EMS and Elkton EMS.
