A Lexington man was killed in Carroll County on Monday October 14, 2024, when he was struck by a train while he was mowing a lawn near the rail tracks. The incident happened at 5:19 p.m. at a private railroad crossing in the 23000 block of US 70.
The victim’s name has not been announced. According to reports, the victim died at the scene.
The crash occurred at the private railroad crossing that lacks any active warning devices, such as lights and gates. To compound the problem with no active warning devices, CSX identified this crossing as private. As such, it is unclear at this time whether the CSX freight train timely sounded its horn as it approached this crossing.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating this collision.
