Teen Seriously Injured by CSX Freight Train

(Wayne County, West Virginia – September 29, 2012)

A girl believed to be in her late teens received multiple traumatic injuries early Saturday evening at about 6:00 P.M. when she was struck by a westbound CSX freight train as she walked west along CSX railroad tracks about two blocks from the Vernon Street crossing near the 2600 block of James River Road near Huntington, WV.

A neighbor in the area first heard what sounded like a commotion, but then ran to the location when she heard a woman screaming in agony after being hit by the train, and cared for the victim until paramedics from the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Dept. arrived to stabilize her.

The as-yet unidentified female was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries to the lower part of her body.

Officers from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and CSX railroad were investigating the accident.
