Several Passengers Injured When Florida Tri-Rail Commuter Train Hits Stalled Car
(Fort Lauderdale, Florida – November 6, 2011)
Between 10 and 15 passengers aboard a Florida Tri-Rail commuter passenger train were injured when the train struck a vehicle stuck on the tracks at West Commercial Blvd. and Powerline Road in Fort Lauderdale, FL Sunday afternoon.
The driver and two passengers exited the stranded auto without injury, and the train carried the disabled vehicle about a mile down the tracks before it burst into flames.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel treated some passengers at the scene and transported 11 passengers to either Holy Cross Hospital or Broward General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
