Police, Railroad Shield Scene At Site Of Train/Pedestrian Accident

(Lincoln, Rhode Island – August 12, 2011)

While an investigation into the serious injury of a 26-year-old Woonsocket, RI man who was struck by a Providence & Worcester Railroad freight train early Friday morning was being conducted, police and P&W RR officials shut off public access to a popular biking/hiking trail which parallels the railroad tracks about 100’ away in order to avoid public scrutiny.

The victim was hit by the P&W train about 3:55 A.M. after it rounded a curve at 26 mph and the engineer saw the man standing near the tracks. The victim was struck a glancing blow, rendering him unconscious, and he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was admitted in undisclosed condition.
