Pennsylvania Area Records Second Train/Pedestrian Death in Four Days
(Emmaus, Pennsylvania – April 25, 2011)
A 33-year-old man helping to move a cast iron pipe near railroad tracks became the second pedestrian/train fatality in the Reading/Allentown-area in the past four days. David Schlaner of Bethlehem was among a group attempting to move the large pipe when he was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train around 11:30 A.M. Monday morning near Chestnut (Route 29) and James Streets in Emmaus. Last week, 22-year-old Lance Mulholland was hit and killed by another Norfolk Southern train as he walked near NS Railway tracks in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.
