One Killed, One Injured at Dangerous, Unguarded Private Iowa Canadian National Crossing
(Webster City, Iowa – May 31, 2011)
Two men leaving a business parking lot in Webster City, IA were involved in a deadly collision with a Canadian National Railroad train about 12:45 P.M. early Tuesday afternoon at a dangerous, unguarded, private crossing just off East Second Street. The passenger in the Nissan Xterra SUV, 54-year-old Francisco Huerta-Duran of Webster City, died instantly when the vehicle was hit broadside by the train on the passenger side.
The driver, 31-year-old Jose Davis-Rivera, also of Webster City, was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of serious injuries. Iowa State Patrol troopers who investigated the tragedy said the two victims were leaving the May Ann’s Specialty Foods parking lot at 1511 East Second when the accident occurred.
