Occupants Of Pickup Truck Injured By Canadian National Train
(Holmes County, Mississippi – October 3, 2011)
Two men in a pickup truck hauling farm equipment escaped death but not injury Monday morning about 9:00 A.M. as they attempted to cross Canadian National Railroad tracks at Highway 49E in Holmes County, MS and were struck by a CN freight train.
The train separated the pickup from its trailer, flinging the truck upside down on the opposite side of the tracks. The driver, Paul Beckwith of Belzoni, MS, and his passenger, Clark Hester of Louisa, MS, were both out of the vehicle and conscious when Holmes County emergency crews arrived. The Highway 49E crossing is not equipped with both lights or gates and the approach of the crossing for motorists is at a skewed angle.
