Nebraska Overpass To Honor Three Victims Of Crossing Accident

(Norris, Nebraska – August 5, 2011)

A $5 million, 3,000 foot span allowing South 68th Street to bridge Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks, and which has been under construction for 18 months, will honor three Norris High School students who died in a May, 30, 1986 tragedy at the crossing the overpass will eliminate.

The three students died when hit by a Burlington Northern freight train consisting of three locomotives and 71 freight cars at the ungated South 68th Street crossing as the three young men had recently finished school for the summer.

The Hickman Area Community Foundation will erect a steel sculpture in memory of Kevin Quidato, 19, Timothy Heaps, 17, and Jeffrey Heaps, 16, near the end of the recreational train adjacent to the new overpass.
