Multiple Firefighters Injured in Florida After Collision with Brightline Train

By Pottroff & Karlin LLC |

(West Palm Beach, Florida – December 29, 2024)

Multiple firefighters were seriously injured after their engine was struck was a Brightline train in Delray Beach, Florida. The collision occurred last Saturday morning just before 10:50 am at the Brightline Crossing near East Atlantic Avenue and Southeast 1st Avenue.

One CBS News Miami viewer said on X that the fire engine was reportedly responding to a car crash in the area. Martin said there was a concurrent call for service just before the crash. It was unclear whether the engine involved in the crash was the same engine responding to the previous car crash.

In response to the crash, Brightline released a video right before the moment of impact. The video shows a high speed train just before crashing into the fire engine. There appears to be a stopped freight train on an adjacent track that was blocking multiple intersections. The stopped freight train that was blocking at least one adjacent crossing could have forced the fire engine to attempt to cross at the crossing where the collision occurred, not knowing until it was too late that a high-speed train was also approaching on an adjacent track.

The Delray Beach Police Department, Brightline officials and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Train crash cases are unique and complex with many different potential pitfalls, such as federal preemption. Anytime I get hired or even get a call from a train crash victim, my very first call is to Nathan’s firm. Nathan’s knowledge and experience in handling and trying cases against these litigation savvy railroad companies gives me the confidence to know that the clients and cases I refer to him are getting the best of the best.
