(Sebree, Kentucky – September 9, 2011)
A 45-year-old female Henderson, KY resident was killed about 12:37 P.M. early Friday afternoon when her 1995 Mazda collided with a CSX freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Sebree Springs Road and CSX Railroad tracks a half mile south of Sebree, KY.
Beaulah D. Pirtle, a wife of 24 years and mother of a daughter and two sons, was southbound on U.S. Highway 41 when she turned onto Sebree Springs Road and was hit by the southbound train at the crossing which lacked lights, gates or any electronic protective devices and had only passive railroad crossbucks to “warn” of oncoming trains.
Webster County Coroner Todd Vanover pronounced Mrs. Pirtle dead at the scene. Her death was one of three train-related fatalities occurring in Kentucky on Friday.
