Missouri Motorist Seriously Injured at Union Pacific Crossing
(Annapolis, Missouri – September 16, 2021)
A 61-year-old local man was seriously injured last Thursday evening when his 200 Jeep Grand Cherokee was struck by a freight locomotive. The collision occurred on September 16, 2021 around 8:00 pm at the railroad crossing on Center Street in Annapolis, Missouri. According to reports, the driver, Lawrence G. Francis, was life-flighted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The crossing where this collision occurred at a Union Pacific railroad-highway grade crossing. There were lights and gates at this crossing, but at this time it is unknown if they were properly operating at the time of this crash. It is also unknown whether the train horn was properly blown for the motorist. According to Union Pacific records, a daily average of three trains travel over this crossing at speeds up to 40 mph.
