(Perham, Minnesota – June 2, 2011)
Although authorities were raising speculation that 48-year-old Gary Frieler of Lake Park, MN may have suffered from a medical condition, the facts are that the driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured about 4:00 P.M. when he crossed Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks on 425th Street In Perham, MN.
The man was struck by a BNSF train at this unguarded, dangerous, crossbuck-only railroad crossing. After being hit on the passenger side at a right angle by the eastbound BNSF train the truck rolled over completely and land upright.
Emergency responders had to extricate the victim from his demolished vehicle, after which he was taken by air ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, where he was admitted in guarded condition.
