Man Injured at Crossing Where Woman Died in 2010

A Streator, Illinois driver of a truck was injured about 2:00 P.M. Friday when his northbound vehicle collided with an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train at the crossing of Illinois Route 117 at the south edge of Toluca. Michael Cates, 38, was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator according to a report not released until May 2. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated the accident, did not disclose the man’s condition.  

On July 28, 2010, at this same crossing, a 43-year old Toluca woman on foot was struck and killed by a BNSF train off of the main railroad track.
