Lenexa Truck Driver Killed at Non-Gated, Vegetation Obscured Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad Crossing

(Harrisonville, Missouri – December 7, 2021)

A 66-year-old man driving a semi tractor-trailer from Lenexa, KS was killed yesterday after his eastbound truck was struck by a Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad freight train. The collision occurred at the non-gated railroad crossing on Anaconda Road near Clearwater Drive in Harrisonville, Missouri.

According to report, the truck caught fire and overturned after the collision. The victim, Michael Samani was found deceased at the scene.

Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad reported to the Federal Railroad Administration that a daily average of five trains travel through this crossing at typical speeds of 40 mph. A prior collision injured another individual at this crossing. Yet, there are no automatic gates at this crossing. Installation of automatic gates have been shown to reduce the likelihood of collisions by up to two-thirds.
