Kansas Woman Killed By Train

(Erie, Kansas – April 20, 2011)

A 53-year-old Erie resident, Nancy E. Smith, was killed Wednesday afternoon when her 1992 Pontiac Sunbird was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train travelling on Union Pacific railroad tracks at a rural, Neosho County railroad crossing a mile and a half east and a mile north of the U.S. Highway 59/Kansas Highway 47 intersection. The accident was investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol, whose detailed report mentioned only that the victim was not wearing a seat belt
