A 36-year-old local resident was killed by an eastbound Union Pacific freight train at about 1:16 A.M., CDT as he was walking near UP Railroad tracks close to the 1600 block of Limestone Road in eastern McPherson, K. The tragedy and the victim went unnoticed until his body was seen by the crew of a westbound train nearly an hour later.

Joshua Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by the McPherson County Coroner.

The former Rock Island/Cotton Belt main line currently carries a daily average of a dozen freight trains at a maximum allowable speed of 60 mph.

By Monday, both county and city law enforcement officials were still awaiting information they had requested from UPRR over 30 hours earlier.
