Indiana Motorist Killed at Non-Gated Norfolk Southern Crossing
(Summitville, Indiana – June 23, 2020)
A 56-year-old local woman became the second fatality to occur at the non-gated railroad crossing of Walnut Street and Norfolk Southern tracks in Summitville, IN. The motorist, Elizabeth Anne McClamb was killed when her Jeep Liberty collided with one of 15 daily Norfolk Southern Railway trains that cross Walnut Street. McClamb’s collision was the third recorded collision with a Norfolk Southern train there.
Local police authorities, while noting the absence of gates at the crossing, said the heavily-damaged SUV was flung by the train’s impact into an adjacent parking lot where it, in turn, collided with three unoccupied parked cars.
