(Terre Haute, Indiana – May 15, 2023)
A Terre Haute South High School student was killed last week when his vehicle was struck by a freight train at a CSX Transportation crossing in Vigo County. The collision occurred at the CSX Crossing on E Harlan Road just before 3:20 pm. According to the local sheriff’s office, the deceased high school student was identified as 19-year-old Logan Blueher.
The crossing where this wreck occurred is equipped with active warning devices, but it is unknown at this time if they were properly operating. According to records CSX submits to the Federal Railroad Administration, a total of 20 trains travel through this crossing on a daily basis at a typical speed of 60 miles per hour. There have also been at least eight prior wrecks at this crossing.
The Vigo County Sherriff’s Office is still investigating this collision.
