Fog-Obscured Semi/Train Crossing Accident Sends Three To Hospital

(Seneca, Kansas – August 13, 2011)

Heavy fog early Saturday morning about 4:15 A.M. was a major factor in a crossing collision between at semi-trailer truck and a Union Pacific freight train at the U.S. 36 Highway crossing of UPRR tracks in Seneca, KS.

Truck driver Marcus Andrew Taylor, 34, was unable to see the flashers or gates obscured by the foggy conditions until the last second, and swerved his rig too late to avoid the oncoming freight train. The driver, as well as two people in the sleeper cab of the 1987 Kenworth tractor, Kimberly Hodson, 41, and Marcus Taylor Jr., 9, all of Springfield, MO, were transported to Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca for treatment of their injuries.
