(Bois D’Arc, Missouri – November 16, 2011)
A 68-year-old local resident was killed about 9:45 A.M. Wednesday morning by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train just west of Bois D’Arc, MO in Greene County at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of North Farm Road 47 and BNSF railroad tracks.
The westbound BNSF coal train struck a southbound 2006 Chevrolet driven by Helen Weatherford of Bois D’Arc, MO at the crossing which is marked only by standard, passive railroad crossbuck signs, and lacks any automatic protective devices such as lights, bells or gates whatsoever.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was handling the investigation of the tragedy. The victim’s body was placed in the custody of the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office
