Empty Montana Rail Link Coal Train Kills Pedestrian at Crossing

(Belgrade, Montana – September 29, 2011)

A 56-year-old resident of Belgrade, MT died Thursday afternoon about 1:00 P.M. when he was struck by a Montana Rail Link train hauling 100 empty coal cars at 50 mph at the pedestrian crossing adjacent to Jackrabbit Lane in Belgrade, MT.

Bruce Haler died at the scene according to Belgrade Police Chief E.J. Clark. The lights and gates on the vehicular portion of Jackrabbit Lane were allegedly functioning properly, but do not restrict access via the pedestrian pathway.
