Elderly Woman Driver, Trapped By Gates, Killed By NJ Transit Train
(Belmar, New Jersey – November 13, 2011)
An 82-year-old female motorist, possibly confused when crossing gates lowered behind and ahead of her car, died Sunday morning a little after 11:00 A.M. when her car was hit by a New Jersey Transit North Jersey Coastline passenger train at the crossing of NJT tracks and 8th Avenue in Belmar, NJ.
Gilda Diguilma of Wall, NJ was pronounced dead at the scene of the tragedy, of which Belmar Police Capt. Andrew Huisman said “it’s unclear right now if she went through the gates, around the gates, or got stuck.” By noon, it was reported that the victim’s body was still inside her mangled automobile, with a blue tarp draped over the vehicle.
