Dump Truck Hit By Union Pacific Train At Ungated Crossing

(Cotulla, Texas – August 12, 2011)

A truck driver who said he did not see a Union Pacific freight train coming was hit at the crossing of UPRR and Texas State Highway 133, near I-35, in LaSalle County, TX shortly before noon Friday morning. The dump truck was loaded with sand and was headed for a “fracking” (extraction of oil or natural gas) operation when it and the train collided at the crossing.

The crossing was not equipped with gates, but had flashing lights, the proper operation of which was not determined. The unidentified driver received minor injuries and was transported to Dilley (TX) General Hospital for medical treatment.
