The as-yet unidentified driver of a pickup truck was injured after he was struck by a train as he tried to cross Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks with his pickup truck at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of CP rails and Thurnau Road just west of Pingree Grove, IL early Friday about 12:30 P.M.

The crossing, as for most in this area, is heavily enshrouded with tree lines and brush, making it difficult to see approaching trains, especially when they lack electronic lights, bells or gates and rely solely on railroad crossbuck signs to protect motorists from trains. Pingree Grove Police and Kane County Sheriff’s officers investigated the accident.
