Driver Injured At Dangerous, Unguarded NS Crossing Gets Ticket
(Mt. Coty, Ohio – August 8, 2011)
A Sidney, OH motorist not only received undetermined injuries in a collision with a Norfolk Southern freight train at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of County Road 26 at the east edge of Mt. Cory, OH early Monday evening, but also received a traffic citation for “failure to yield at a railroad crossing.” John A.
Demotte, 38, was driving his 2005 Ford Explorer eastbound when he was struck by the southbound NS train at the crossing which lacks any electronic projective lights, bells or gates, and depends totally on passive railroad crossbuck signs to “alert” motorists of the presence of railroad tracks. The victim was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, OH for treatment of his injuries.
