The lone occupant of an SUV-type vehicle died early Tuesday afternoon about 1:00 P.M. at the crossing of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks and County Road 25 (125th Street), just west of its intersection with Highway 10. His vehicle was struck by a BNSF train of three locomotives and 92 freight cars headed from Washington State to Illinois.

The vehicle and victim, Dennis McKeever, 65, of Chaska, MN, were carried between three-quarters of a mile and a mile impaled upon the nose of the lead locomotive and then flung to the side of the tracks.

BNSF Spokeswoman Amy McBeth claimed that the gates were down and the lights flashing at the crossing, and that a medical helicopter was called in to transport the victim however McKeever was declared dead at the scene.

Law enforcement investigators from the Minnesota State Patrol, the Becker Police Dept. and the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the tragedy.
