A 21-year-old woman, attempting to cross Denver Regional Transportation Authority light rail tracks near the Colorado Convention Center Friday afternoon about 4:00 P.M., was struck and critically injured by an RTD light rail train. The victim was waiting for an eastbound train to pass and then walked into the path of a westbound train she never saw.

Denver Police Spokesman Lt. Matt Murray said the westbound RTD train hit Laura Triem, a student at Metropolitan State College in Denver, at the Speer Blvd./Stout Street crossing where the double-track line crosses over Cherry Creek.

A spokesman for RTD, Scott Reed, related that witnesses said the victim stepped right out in front of the train. Family members said Triem was on her way to her job at a nearby restaurant when the accident occurred. She was taken to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment, and was still in critical condition Sunday.
