Concrete Truck Driver Injured By CSX Train At Dangerous, Unguarded Alabama Crossing
(Tanner, Alabama – September 3, 2011)
A Decatur, AL truck driver was injured and his 2005 Volvo rotary concrete truck virtually destroyed Saturday morning about 10:23 A.M. when he attempted to drive across the dangerous, unguarded intersection with CSX Railroad tracks and Ingram Road and was struck by a CSX freight train.
The accident, which sent driver James Lewis, 35, to Decatur General Hospital, occurred about 10 miles north of Athens, AL in Tanner, AL, in Limestone County. The Ingram Road/CSX intersection has no electronic protection, such as lights, gates or bells, relying only on passive signage to warn motorists they are about to encounter a railroad crossing.
