Chicago Woman on Bicycle Struck, Injured By Train at West 59th Street Crossing

(Chicago, Illinois – September 29, 2011)

A Chicago woman, believed to be between the ages of 50 and 60, riding a bicycle was struck and seriously injured by a freight train travelling on Belt Railway of Chicago tracks at the crossing of BRC and 59th Street on Chicago’s southwest side Thursday afternoon at 4:04 P.M.

The victim was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL, where she was admitted in serious-to-critical condition. The BRC/59th Street crossing is equipped with both lights and gates, but no report on their proper function was offered.
