(Sacramento, California – November 9, 2024)

A California pedestrian was killed this past Saturday after being struck by a Union Pacific train in Sacramento County. According to local police, the collision occurred just after 4 p.m. on Florin Road between McComber Street to the east and Reese Road to the west. Sacramento Metro Fire was dispatched to the scene and discovered the Union Pacific train stopped on the tracks which resulted in temporary road closures between all three streets.

In a statement to the local news, KCRA 3, Union Pacific officials confirmed that the incident did involve one of their trains. Based on Union Pacific submitted data, the Union Pacific railroad crossing on Florin Road sees a daily average of 36 trains that travel at speeds up to 79 miles per hour.

At this time, the victims’ identity has yet to be released, and it is still unknown how fast the train was approaching the individual on the tracks or how long the individual was on the tracks.

This tragedy also comes just eleven days after another California pedestrian, 52-year-old Dana Brown, sadly lost his life after he was struck by a BNSF Railway train in Escalon on Monday, October 28, 2024.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating Saturday’s collision.
