(Fresno, California – December 30, 2024)
A man and woman were walking next to BNSF rail tracks in Fresno when the male pedestrian was fatally struck by a BNSF freight train. The collision occurred around 6:16 pm last Monday near the roadway intersection of Shields Avenue and Van Ness Boulevard. According to reports, the pedestrians were unable to move out of the way in time to avoid the collision.
The police have not identified the name of the individual that was killed, but stated he was in his 20s.
California ranks first among all states in pedestrian-train collisions, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. In 2023, there were 324 pedestrian-train collisions in California, resulting in 190 deaths.
Local police are still investigating this collision.
