BNSF Train Injures Female Motorist Stuck On Dangerous, Unguarded Crossing

(Brookston, Minnesota – November 19, 2011)

An as-yet unidentified 51-year-old woman from Culver, MN was injured Saturday afternoon about 3:00 P.M. when her truck stalled as she attempted to cross Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks at the dangerous, unguarded crossing of Eklund Road near Brookston, MN.The victim was then hit by a southbound train traveling at about 40 mph heavily damaging her truck and flipping it into a trackside ditch.

The Eklund Road/BNSF intersection is equipped solely by a pair of standard, passive railroad crossbuck signs, lacking any automatic lights, bells or gates whatsoever.

The victim was taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, MN for treatment of her injuries.
