Amtrak Strikes, Kills Man in North Charlotte

Amtrak’s “Carolinian” passenger train carrying 126 passengers travelling on Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, hit and killed an unidentified male pedestrian about 8:20 P.M. Sunday night at the crossing of East Sugar Creek Road, near North Tryon Street.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the crossing’s arms were down and the lights were flashing when the victim walked across the tracks in front of the southbound Raleigh-to-Charlotte train.
