Amtrak Destroys Auto Stalled At Utah Union Pacific Crossing
As the driver of a vehicle stalled on Union Pacific tracks in West Wendover, UT early Thursday morning about 1:45 A.M. sought help for his predicament, an eastbound Amtrak passenger train struck and completely destroyed the stuck auto.
Prior to the crash, West Wendover Police Dispatch attempted in vain to contact both Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak operations centers to report the obstruction on the track. The driver of the car, Juan Fuentes, 29, of West Wendover, UT, returned to the scene following the collision, which resulted in the Amtrak train pushing the car a quarter-mile down the UPRR tracks.
