72-Year Old Motorist Seriously Injured In Collision with Light Rail Train
(Jersey City, New Jersey – May 17, 2011)
The 72-year-old driver of a black SUV was seriously injured late this morning about 11:30 A.M. when his vehicle was hit broadside by a New Jersey Transit light rail train at the sixth street crossing in downtown Jersey City.
Although the intersection is controlled by a traffic light, the train’s approach is hidden by buildings. The crossing has been the scene of enough accidents to have one blogger refer to it as “the most dangerous unguarded crossing in the state”. The semi-conscious victim was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was being treated for head lacerations and multiple fractures to his left arm.
