Two individuals are lucky to be alive after the pickup truck they were in crossed paths with a Chicago Central & Pacific Railroad freight train Saturday afternoon at about 2:00 P.M. at the Barton Street crossing with CC&P tracks in Storm Lake, IA.

Child Seriously Injured by Train on Unfenced Rails

(Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania – August 20, 2014)

A 12-year-old middle school girl lost part of her leg and foot Wednesday afternoon at about 2:30 P.M. when she and a 12-year-old male friend took a well-worn path to the tracks of the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad along Railroad Street in Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County, PA and she was struck by a RBM&N train that never stopped.

Edmond Oklahoma Utility Employee Killed by BNSF Train

(Edmond, Oklahoma – August 12, 2014)

A veteran city of Edmond, OK employee of the Edmond Electric utility died tragically Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a BNSF freight train as he tried to free his city vehicle from its trackside impalement at about 5:50 P.M., CDT, according to City of Edmond Spokesman Casey Moore.

Husband Killed, Wife Seriously Injured at Dangerous, Unguarded CSX Crossing

(Weston, Ohio – August 11, 2014)

Numerous negative factors were present Monday evening when the male passenger in a car driven by his wife was pronounced dead at the scene after the couple’s southbound vehicle was struck by an eastbound CSX freight train at the dangerous and unguarded crossing of CSX rails and Weston Road just south of Weston, OH shortly after 7:00 P.M.

Mississippi Driver Killed at Dangerous, Non-Gated BNSF Crossing

(Myrtle, Mississippi – August 6, 2014)

A 51-year-old female motorist lost her life early Wednesday morning at about 5:00 A.M.  when her car was struck by a BNSF freight train at the non-gated grade crossing of BNSF rails and Graham Avenue in Myrtle, MS.

CSX Train Collides with Truck at Still Unguarded Maryland Crossing Where Derailment and Explosion occurred in 2013

(Rosedale, Maryland – August 5, 2014)

Ever since a CSX freight train laden with, among other commodities, hazardous materials struck and destroyed a trash truck at the dangerous, unguarded private crossing of 68th Street in the Baltimore, MD suburb of Rosedale, MD, the intersection has remained as it was before the May 28, 2013 crash that hospitalized the truck owner/operator after the collision.  

Union Pacific Train Strikes Water Truck and Seriously Injures Driver at Dangerous, Unguarded Texas Crossing

(Barstow, Texas – August 3, 2014)

An Albuquerque, NM semi- truck driver employed by H&P Trucking Co. of Texas was seriously injured when he was hit by an eastbound Union Pacific freight train as he left the Barstow, TX public water well Sunday afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., CDT, with a full load of 40 tons of water. The driver was struck mid-truck by the train, one of a half dozen trains which cross there daily at a top allowable speed of 60 mph.

Alabama Driver Killed at Dangerous, Unguarded CSX Crossing

(Jemison, Alabama – July 31, 2014)

A legally deaf Alabama man succumbed Thursday from injuries he had suffered Tuesday morning, July 29 at about 7:30 A.M., EDT when his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was struck by a CSX freight train at the dangerous and unguarded grade crossing of CSX railroad tracks and Guy Street in Jemison, AL.

Rural Nebraska BNSF Railroad Corridor Site of Second Accident in Two Months

(Homer, Nebraska – July 21, 2014)

According to Federal Railroad Administration figures, daily averages of 11 BNSF Railway freight trains pass through the railroad’s corridor through Dakota County, NE at a top permissible speed of 49 mph.  Yet, there are numerous county crossings that do not have any active warning devices, such as lights and gates that can prevent up to 96% of accidents.
