Continuing to call the American railroad industry out on the majority of U.S. rail carriers seeking delay on the year’s end-2015 Congressionally-mandated institution of a nationwide Positive Train Control (PTC) satellite-based railroad safety system, several news media providers have recently questioned the true intent of U.S. rail carriers in delaying implementation another three to five years.

Pedestrian Injured by Norfolk Southern Train at Closed Crossing

(Elkhart, Indiana – December 20, 2013)

An as-yet unidentified 15-year-old boy who was attempting to cross Norfolk Southern railroad tracks with two friends at a crossing closed to vehicular traffic in Elkhart, IN Friday night at about 10:45 P.M. was recovering in a South Bend, IN hospital after being struck by one of the daily average of 53 trains that pass through the corridor at a top speed of 79 mph.

BNSF Train Strikes and Kills Grain Elevator Customer

A grain elevator customer died at about 12:30 P.M. Thursday afternoon when he was struck by an eastbound  BNSF freight train at the elevator near the intersection of FM 2161 and U.S. Highway 60 west of Panhandle, TX.
