Kentucky Mother and Daughter Injured at Problematic, Unguarded CSX Crossing

A 67-year-old mother and her 37-year-old daughter are “lucky to be alive” according to the Laurel County, KY Sheriff’s Office after the pair was seriously injured in a collision between their westbound Toyota Camry and a northbound CSX freight at the dangerous, unguarded road/rail crossing of  Hazel Patch Road and CSX tracks about 10 miles north of London, KY at 2:25 P.M. Tuesday.

A 20-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger were both transported to an area hospital Saturday night after their car was struck by a Chicago, Fort Wayne & Eastern Railroad freight train at the dangerous and unguarded intersection of Iris Road in Marshall County, IN, near Plymouth, after they first stopped and looked for, but did not see, a train that approached at an extreme angle.

The driver of a semi-trailer truck loaded with gravel was surprised and struck by Amtrak’s westbound “Empire Builder” with about 180 passengers on board at the dangerous and unguarded crossing of 11th Avenue and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks just before 1:00 P.M. Monday.

A 53-year-old local man, known for his small business leadership and unselfish public service to his community, was tragically killed at about 9:30 A.M. Tuesday morning when his vehicle was traveling westbound on Iroquois County, IL Road 1120 N about a mile from his home and collided with the locomotive of a southbound CSX freight train at the dangerous and unguarded road/rail intersection located there.
