South Carolina City Finds Norfolk Southern Unreceptive to Crossing Safety Concerns

CSX Proposes Indiana Rail Corridor Upgrade Increasing Train Numbers and Speed But Has No Plan for Improved Crossing Safety

The mayors of four south central Indiana communities are up in arms over a plan by the CSX Railway to upgrade their tracks along a line between Indianapolis, IN and Louisville, KY in order to accommodate an additional 10 to 15 freight trains daily, more than triple the current 15 mph speeds to 49 mph, and ignore completely any increase in active signal protective devices for grade crossings along the rail line.

Texas Pedestrian Killed by Amtrak Train on Union Pacific Tracks

A pedestrian attempting to cross a railroad bridge almost within the shadow of the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, was struck by an Amtrak’s eastbound “Texas Eagle” passenger train last Wednesday afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., CST, and fell 30 feet below to Johnson Creek, from which his body was retrieved.

Two North Carolina Teens Killed While Trying to Get Off Tracks as Amtrak Train Approached

Two teenaged sophomore students from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield, NC were killed at about 1:55 P.M., EST Friday afternoon as one tried to pull the other out of harm’s way on CSX Railroad tracks as Amtrak’s “Palmetto” passenger train with 94 passengers on board the Savannah, GA-to-New York City train approached, but both were struck by the fast train.

Idaho Motorist Injured at Dangerous, Unguarded Union Pacific Crossing

The driver of a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer SUV was “thanking the good Lord” as he was consoled by family members who came to his aid after his vehicle was struck, spun around twice, and deposited in a trackside ditch by a Union Pacific train he barely saw as he attempted to cross UPRR tracks on Tyhee Road north of Chubbuck, ID last Friday afternoon at about 5:15 P.M., MST.

A 37-year-old man known for his roles on NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and a regular on Bravo TV Network reality and fitness shows was killed near the Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s Burbank, CA depot Saturday afternoon about 4:05 P.M., PST, as he and two friends were filming Los Angeles Metrolink trains and passengers for possible use in fitness videos.

Tennessee Pedestrian Killed, Another Seriously Injured While Crossing an Unguarded Norfolk Southern Crossing

Two female pedestrians were struck by a train early Monday morning at about 4:15 A.M. while attempting to cross the single track main line of the Norfolk Southern Railway. The rails pass through the unincorporated community of McDonald, TN and the pedestrians were crossing them at the South McDonald Road crossing with NS rails just north of B Avenue.

Indiana Motorist Seriously Injured at Dangerous, Unguarded Norfolk Southern Crossing

An Indiana woman suffered serious injuries last Friday afternoon at about 4:30 P.M., EST when her vehicle was smashed by a Norfolk Southern freight train as she attempted to cross NS tracks that intersect with Kosciusko County Road 600 North, a crossing which can be described as both unguarded as well as dangerous.
